AHCA/NCAL 2014 Conference in Phoenix to Shine Spotlight on

Sensitivity Training Program That Helps Caregivers Understand

Challenges Facing Those With Dementia

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 26, 2013)  – Thousands of long term and post-acute care professionals from across the nation will soon learn more about the Virtual Dementia Tour®(VDT) when it is featured at the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

One of the top professional development events for individuals specializing in long term and post-acute care, the AHCA/NCAL 64th Annual Convention & Expo will be held from Sunday, October 6 through Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Phoenix Convention Center located at 100 N 3rd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004. On average, more than 3,000 people attend the conference each year.

The Virtual Dementia Tour was included among the select number of educational offerings presented at the conference because of the positive experience AHCA/NCAL members have had with the ground-breaking program.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of patented sensory tools and instruction. During a VDT experience, participants meet with Certified Trainers who guide them through the Tour and outfit them with patented devices that alter the senses. Invented by P.K. Beville, M.S., founder of Second Wind Dreams, tasks and exercises that are part of the Tour enable caregivers and professionals to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges facing those with dementia.

“We are excited to help even more long term and post-acute care professionals learn about the Virtual Dementia Tour and its impact on residents, caregivers and communities,” said P.K. Beville, M.S., founder of Second Wind Dreams and inventor of the Virtual Dementia Tour.  “The VDT has been experienced by almost a million people in 17 countries and we are looking forward to dramatically increasing that number right here in the United States.”
