International Nonprofit and Renowned Organization Fulfill Helicopter Dream for 84-Year-Old Elder
ATLANTA, GA—On Friday, April 3, Second Wind Dreams and Helicopter Express teamed to grant a dream for an elder of the Decatur, GA community. Thelma, 84, has always dreamed of flying in a helicopter, but was never granted the opportunity until this Friday.
After safety prep, Thelma, a resident of Pruitt Health Decatur, her son Lee and caregiver Charles boarded the helicopter for a 30-minute tour around Atlanta exploring Stone Mountain, downtown and Buckhead.
Thelma gazed through the helicopter window pointing out landmarks and places she’d been before. “This is the most I’ve ever seen in my life,” she said as she flew over Turner Field.
As the flight landed, Thelma turned to her son and said “This was fun! Now you can’t say I’ve never rode in a helicopter before.”
Despite Helicopter Expresses’ multiple, daily requests, this particular dream pulled at the heart strings of the company’s V.P. of Sales and Business Development, Gary Dalton. Thelma's dream reminded him of his grandmother and the first time he took her on a helicopter. His grandmother, then 86, had never flown before, he says.“When I heard about Thelma I called Scott (CEO of Helicopter Express) right away to see if I could fly her myself.”
CEO of Second Wind Dreams, Doreen R. Scascitelli, was honored to attend this dream fulfillment. "Dream fulfillment is an unparalleled opportunity to give to those who have given so much during their own life time," she said. "Again today I stand humbled and honored to be with Thelma and eternally grateful to Pilot Gary for making Thelma's life long dream come true."
