National Second Wind Dreams Appreciation Day Honors Eldercare Communities Nationwide

ATLANTA,Ga. (Friday, September 5, 2014) — International, nonprofit Second Wind Dreams® announces today the winners of its annual appreciation day. More than 500 eldercare communities including hospices, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities qualified to be nominated for recognition of the appreciation day.


Director of Community Relations for Second Wind Dreams, Amy Safran, values this day of appreciation. “This is an exciting opportunity to thank all the individuals and elder care communities who dedicate themselves to changing the perception of aging.  Not only do we wish to acknowledge their support and efforts, we want to tell the world about the difference they have made in so many elders’ lives.  It is our honor to congratulate these amazing winners,” she said.

National Second Wind Dreams Appreciation Day Winners:

Dream of the Year:  Joe’s 102nd Birthday fulfilled by NJ Veterans Home at Vineland
Member of the Year:  Cedarbrook Fountain Hill Nursing Home (Fountain Hill, PA)
DreamWeaver of the Year:  Mary Ford of Laurel Lake Retirement Community (Hudson, OH)
Volunteer of the Year:  Zulma Alvarez of Cedarbrook Fountain Hill (Fountain Hill, PA)

The winners will receive featured recognition for one year on Second Wind Dreams official website, public announcement via social and traditional media and personalized award plaque. In addition, the winner of the Dream of the Year will also receive further dream fulfillment enhancing the quality of all lives in their community valued up to $500. This donation is sponsored by the Caesars Foundation.

The nomination, judging and voting process lasted from June to September 4 and included five dedicated, celebrity judges:

P.K. Beville, M.S. is the founder of Second Wind Dreams. Beville also invented and authored the organization’s flagship, educational program, The Virtual Dementia Tour®, along with co-authoring Second Wind. A geriatric specialist and national speaker, Beville began working with elders in 1983 and has since been recognized as an innovator on local, state and national platforms, earning her several awards and honors.

Leeza Gibbons is an Emmy Award-wining entertainer who has graced the TV screen through her involvement with Entertainment Tonight; her day time talk show, Leeza; American Now and My Generation. Her mother and grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease were inspiration behind the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation.

Terry Fator is a singer, comedian, ventriloquist and celebrity impressionist who burst onto the national scene after winning “America’s Got Talent” in 2007. A native of Texas, Fator spent more than 20 years on the road performing at everything from schools to county fairs before becoming a Vegas headliner.

Taylor Makakoa is an accomplished dancer, model and actress from Hawaii. Makakoa joined Terry Fator’s show in 2008 and joined Fator in marriage in 2010. While not performing, Makakoa loves to spend her time working on behalf of causes she is passionate about including caring for animals at the Heaven Can Wait Society.

Tommy Terry Fresch is a WWII Veteran serving in the 8th Air Force and completing 35 missions over Germany. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross for his outstanding service. Fresch also won the 8th Air Force Lightweight Boxing Title in London, England. Fresch later joined a band called The Goofers, which was named by Louie Prima. This band performed and worked with several famous artists and featured on The Ed Sullivan Show.
