Opening Hearts and Minds Across the Pond

“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get a long a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view (…) until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”  Lee Harper, To Kill a Mockingbird

We are given very few opportunities in life to truly experience what someone else is experiencing – physically and mentally. Yesterday, the Virtual Dementia Tour, created by Second Wind Dreams® Founder P.K. Beville, and Training2Care partnered together to bring this rare and heart-warming opportunity to our neighbors across the pond.

United Kingdom’s media was provided a glimpse into the compassion project while celebrities and citizens participated in the 12-minute physical experience that simulates the magnitude of frustrations and loneliness a person living with dementia faces every second of every day.  Participants were outfitted with research-designed eyeglasses, patented audio playing headphones, sensory blocking gloves, and prickly shoe inserts. During the 12-minute Virtual Dementia Tour, participants were asked to do simple household tasks. The goal - create empathy and understanding for those living with this incurable and incapacitating disease.

With increased understanding and empathy, the Virtual Dementia Tour aims to raise awareness and citizenship support to begin to find a cure that affects millions of people and their families each year. The hope is to move people to action. To get involved visit
