ATLANTA, Ga. (April 12, 2013) – Leaders of Second Wind Dreams® have announced that their Virtual Dementia Tour®, a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of sensory tools and instruction, will be showcased by Johnson & Johnson in their exhibit at TEDMED, a major national conference focusing on the intersection of medicine and healthcare.
Scheduled to be held in Washington, DC from April 16-19, 2013, TEDMED provides a forum for policy and research discussions about the future of healthcare. The conference features representatives of organizations such as the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, Institute of Medicine, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), the National Institutes of Health and the White House.
“TEDMED believes that the future of health and medicine will be shaped by vital input from leading medical colleges, teaching hospitals, government agencies, and non-profit institutions from around the world,” said P.K. Beville, founder and CEO of Second Wind Dreams® and author of the Virtual Dementia Tour®. “We are proud to be included among those leading nonprofits.”
The Virtual Dementia Tour® is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of sensory tools and instruction. During a Virtual Dementia Tour® experience, participants meet with certified trainers who guide them through tasks and exercises that enable caregivers and professionals to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges facing those with dementia.
“We are at a crucial time in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease,” stated Beville. “It is my hope that by participating in TEDMED more healthcare leaders will have the opportunity to see how the Virtual Dementia Tour® uses a humanistic approach – enabling caregivers and communities to experience firsthand the behaviors and needs of patients. The Tour uses a proven method to build a greater understanding of the disease, helping to shift thinking from fear to action.”
