Dot, a 90 year old resident at Ashwood Place was a sheriff's deputy for 14 years in Perry County, Ky. Dot got her first taste of law enforcement when she helped campaign beside her father, who was elected Sheriff in 1950. Dot went on to serve under 3 different Sheriffs. Her duties included collecting taxes, inspecting out of state vehicles, sequestering Juror's, and transporting female prisoners. After all of these years Dot admitted that there was one thing that she had wanted to do but never had the opportunity...until now! Somehow Dot never got to drive the cruiser or even ride in one with the lights on. Thanks to Ashwood Place and Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton she will finally ge her chance. On Saturday Dot was picked up by Sheriff Melton with lights flashing and given the opportunity to drive one of the new cruisers in a controlled environment. This after she was presented a Ky Colonel by former Governor Jullian Carroll. This was wittnessed by Dot's family and friends who then returned to Ashwood Place to reminisce sharing photos and stories from the past.
