While completing the new resident history paperwork with Ima, I learned she once loved to bowl. She was on a league, had her own bowling ball, shoes, & gloves. Because Ima was left without the use of her right arm or ability to speak, Ima's daughter helped her share her life history. When her daughter talked about bowling, tears ran down Ima's face. She smiled through the tears, but I was aware that bowling meant an awful lot to Ima. It was her place to shine, her circle of friends, and certainly a joyful part of her life.
It wasn't hard to convince Ima to give bowling another chance. While others may have been discouraged by the physical limitations without the use of her right arm, Ima was ready to go...bowling ball and all!
