When weaving dreams, one needs to know the person they are making the wish and dream come true for. It’s important to know the past as well as the present. Here at ElmCroft of State College, we like to incorporate hobbies, wishes, and memories into our daily activities. At times, a memory care resident may not be able to speak fluently for herself. It is our job to know this resident and provide for them suitable activities. Alzheimer’s can steal some of our memories, but not all. MaryAnn rarely speaks but she loves music and playing instruments. MaryAnn spent many years singing and playing in local bands, carnivals, Grange Fair, and country taverns in the area. Here at ElmCroft we wanted to give her a day of remembrance, on June 26, 2012 the management and fellow employees set a day aside for her. Brad from dietary brought his guitar and the staff and residents gathered to provide fellowship and a country music sing along in her honor. As she is holding the guitar and the chorus of music flows through the room, she sings happily with her toe tapping to the music.
