Bill was a career firefighter for 14 years at Fort McPherson in East Point, GA, in the 1950's. He came to "Fort Mac" after having served as a firefighter for 28 months in the U.S. Air Force. His dream was to ride in a fire truck again.
When Bill climbed into the cab of Engine 1, his eyes lit up. He waved to family and friends as UCFD Lt. Damon Hood put Engine 1 in gear and began to head toward Downtown. Once they returned back to the station, Chief Worden presented Bill with a UCFD t-shirt, a plaque recognizing June 21st as Bill Justus Firefighter Day in Union County, and an Afghan complete with the Firefighter's Prayer embroidered on it.
The day ended with a feast at the station that included Firehouse Stew!
