PruittHealth Blythewood proudly presents “Honoring Memories and Celebrating Survivors.” PruittHealth Blythewood set sail for an “Adventure” aboard the Spirit of Lake Murray Sunday, March 20th joining the fight against Cancer. The facility chartered a yacht and hosted a BBQ dinner and 2 hour sailing. The evening consisted of a luminary ceremony which honored the memories of residents, family members, and friends who lost the fight against cancer. A total of 19 survivors were honored and celebrated during the sailing consisting of residents, partners, and survivors from the local community. Our residents made luminary bags for all of the survivors and families and friends in attendance made luminary bags in memory of their loved ones. These luminary bags were displayed during the sailing. All of the survivors received a gift bag with a cancer survivor words of encouragement necklace.
Dr. Albert Humphrey one of our facility physicians and also a cancer survivor was the guest speaker for the event. Our residents that were able to set sail described the experience as being peaceful and free. They all enjoyed fishing and watersports in the past and this experience really brought back great memories. Everyone was able to fellowship with family and friends as we all came together for such a great cause. An article about the event with a photo was posted in the local newspaper.
