Jean Sinkhorn Cuccias, a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs, MS, recently received a Second Wind Dream sponsored by Gulf Hills Hotel, Elmcroft Senior Living and the Phoenicia Gourmet Restaurant. Jean moved to Mobile, AL nearly three years ago and had missed her hometown. Her dream was to return to Ocean Springs to reconnect with many of her friends. On Friday, July 19 and Saturday July 20 she was able to do just that. Upon her arrival at Gulf Hills Hotel, she was greeted by a sign welcoming her back home and also received a most warm welcoming hug from manager Donna Brown. The two were able to catch up and reminisce for a bit prior to Jean’s night out with her girlfriends.Next Jean was able to visit with her dear friend Lorraine at Lorraine’s home and then they met up with two more of her friends (Ruth and Lila) for a gourmet meal at Phoenicia. The ladies spent several hours reminiscing over their meals. Afterwards, Jean was able to go for a late night joyride to Biloxi to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The following morning Jean was greeted by a former golfing buddy Kathy and they shared a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before Jean was able to give her travelling partner Aegina M. Jokela, HLD at Elmcroft, a tour of Ocean Springs. She first stopped by her friend Anita’s house for a visit and then showed Aegina many of the wonderfully diverse and beautiful homes in Ocean Springs. Next was a stop at the Daughters of the King Thrift Shop where Jean had worked for many years on Saturday mornings. She was able to reconnect with a former coworker as well as some of the customers. After leaving the store, the pair drove down to Shearwater to see Jean’s old home and then on to Shearwater Pottery. Jean then showed Aegina the majestic Ruskin Oak and from there visited Jean’s friend Janet. There was a stop at the famous Tato Nut Doughnut Shop for some goodies for her friends back in Mobile. The duo enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch then made various stops to track down some local honey. Afterwards, another run to Biloxi to purchase fresh baked French Baguettes from the local Vietnamese Bakery, then a stop at her nephew’s antique shop and a stop at an art gallery. Afterwards Jean was ready to head back to Mobile after sharing her Ocean Springs with a friend. She has stated since her return back to Mobile that she had a wonderful time in Mississippi and has now added even more wonderful memories to her repertoire!
