Leorabelle Rudloff’s 2nd Wind Dream
June 25th, 2016
If you want to see Leorabelle Rudloff light up, utter the words, “Gentlemen, start your engines.” Lee’s happiest memories are filled with roaring crowds, revving engines and checkered flags. She and her husband made weekly trips to the races at the Canfield Speedway but really looked forward to their yearly trek south to the Daytona 500, where in 1968, she met Richard Petty. Lee’s love for racing has been passed down to her daughter who keeps the tradition alive with her own yearly trip to Daytona in February. Unfortunately Lee, a nursing resident at Shepherd of the Valley – Boardman, can no longer travel to Florida for the races but she still loves watching them on TV and would love nothing more than to get out to a real race.
On Saturday June 25, 2016 Leorabelle’s dream was granted. She arrived at Sharon Speedway at 5:30pm and received her VIP Pit Passes for access to all the drivers and race cars for the night’s event. She even got to ride in the pace truck before two of the races. She enjoyed all the sights and sounds of Sharon Speedway’s finest racing and relived some of her happiest memories.
