Maria told us she would like to make fresh lemonade. We gathered up the lemons and the squeezing jars, which Maria is holding in her picture, and we got busy. Maria has some trouble with muscle control, so a few women helped her roll the lemons first to start releasing the juice from the cells. We cut the lemons in half, and then held the jar still while Maria rotated the pieces on the extracting top. She enjoyed the squirting juice and watching as we cleared the top of the jar of pulp in prep for more squeezing. She had a great time and it brought back memories of the days she was a cook for the local German heritage center.
