A Time of GivingMary Carper was born in 1932. She worked for the postal service as post master. She also has a passion for crocheting; she was taught how to crochet at an early age by her mother. Mary is a lady with a very big heart and a giving person. Mary became part of the Elmcroft family in November 2013. In talking with her she shared about her years as a postmaster and how she loves to crochet blankets and donate them to the local hospital for the new babies and to churches for them to sell at their bazaars. Then I come to fine that Mary not only donated the beautiful blankets to the hospital but also would go there and volunteer. She would take pharmacy supplies to the nurse’s stations for the pharmacy. Mary has been donating her blankets to Mount Nittany Hospital since December 6, 2009 she has a total of 3,514.53 hours of volunteer time. She has over 550 hours just in blankets. She has donated over 70 blankets. So in finding all this out I contacted the head of volunteers Vicki Morgan to ask if we could present Mary with a certificate for all her hard work and hours of Volunteering. They were happy to be part of recognizing Mary. So on Tuesday July 29, 2014 we arranged for Vicki to come to Elmcroft and present Mary with a gold star certificate and a pin. She also received a canvas bag and a note book. Mary spends some of her afternoons here at Elmcroft playing Bingo and winning some yarn to be able to continue her passion for making and donating her blankets. Mary has even taught a few others here at Elmcroft how to crochet.
