Sally, one of our residents who has been here at Laurel Lake for 26 years, had a very special birthday, she was turning 103! We wanted to throw her a spectacular party, and our dream weaver Kathy got the word out to make it happen. She contacted Sally's family to come, and her son prepared a message that he gave to the group. She also contacted the mayor Currin from Hudson to come and honor her. He made a special proclamation to make March 14th "Sally Harris Day" in Hudson, he gave a speech including a biography of Sally and presented her with a special certificate representing the honor of her very own day. Decorations galore were placed all around the spacious dining room with lots of room for her friends who came up to wish her well. Because the party had been advertised throughout our retirement community, so many came to see her, there were also fun stories that friends had submitted in writing that were read to the group by our Master of Ceremonies; Susan. Susan also read trivia about things that happened in the year 1912. It turns out that Oreo cookies were created that same year, and platters of Oreos were provided for enjoyment- they even have a new filling flavor called "Birthday Cake" ! A beautiful cake and punch were provided for the partiers and it was a truly joyful event. Sally was smiling and laughing as memories from the past were relived. We all hope to be enjoying life as much as Sally when we are her age!
