Second Chance Prom

EVERY LITTLE GIRL  DREAMS OF ONE DAY BECOMING  A PRINCESS  AND FOR JENNIFER SMITH, THAT DREAM BECAME A REALITY  WHEN AS A HIGH  SCHOOL STUDENT, SHE WAS CROWNED PROM QUEEN.  THE GLITZ  AND GLAMOUR OF DRESSING UP FOR A DAY, DANCING WITH FRIENDS  AND PARADING AROUND IN A CROWN MADE THAT EVENING ONE SHE WILL NEVER FORGET. HOWEVER, THINGS CHANGED DRASTICALLY  FOR JENNIFER WHEN SHE WAS INVOLVED IN  A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN 2016 AT THE AGE OF 54.

JENNIFER LOST THE USE OF HER LOWER EXTREMITIES AND BECAME IMMOBLIZED  IN A SPLIT SECOND. BECAUSE OF THAT, SHE HAS H.AD TO ENDURE MANY HARDSHIPS, TRIALS AND SETBACKS. THOUGH  SHE HAS QUITE  A BIT TO GO, JENNIFER HAS SHOWN  DETERMINATION TO NOT LET LIFE GET IN THE WAY OF HER JOURNEY.

WHEN ASKED IF SHE COULD GO B.ACK IN TIME AND RELIVE ANY MOMENT, THERE WAS NO HESITATION IN HER RESPONSE OF: "PROM. IT WAS THE GREATEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE."  AND AFTER SPEAKING TO SEVERAL OTHER RESIDENTS,IT TURNED OUT THAT A HIGH SCHOOL PROM WAS A FOND MEMORY OF MANY MORE.

ON APRIL 4,2017, PRUITT HEALTH CARE'S SECOND CHANCE PROM TOOK PLACE. THE VENUE, WHO GRACIOUSLY DONATED THEIR SERVICES,WAS THE BARN AT HERITAGE FARM, A BEAUTIFUL BARN/WEDDING VENUE WITH GORGEOUS VIEWS OF PILOT MOUNTAIN  AND HUNDREDS OF ROLLING ACRES. ADD IN A DJ, A PHOTOGRAPHER, APPETIZERS, DECORATIONS AND A PINCH OF A DOZEN WELL-DRESSED, EXCITED RESIDENTS AND THERE IS A RECIPE FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE PROM NIGHT.

THE DAY STARTED WHEN RESIDENTS HAD A PROFESSIONAL MAKE UP ARTIST COME AND DO THEIR HAIR AND MAKE UP. WITH  FANCY CLOTHING AND DATES TO MATCH,THE JUBILENT BUNCH ARRIVED AT THE ROUNDABOUT OF THE BARN AND TOOK TURNS ENTERING THROUGH THE BIG MAIN DOORS.

AT 6:45 PM, SECOND CHANCE PROM ANNOUNCED A PROM QUEEN, BECAUSE NO PROM CAN BE COMPLETE WITHOUT A QUEEN. TEARS AND SNIFFLES COULD BE HEARD THROUGHOUT AS JENNIFER'S NAME WAS CALLED. AS SHE MADE HER WAY TO THE MIDDLE OF THE DANCE FLOOR AND ACCEPTED HER CROWN,THE ENTIRE ROOM LIT UP WITH CHEERS AND APPLAUDING!

THE EVENING CONTINUED WITH DANCING, SINGING AND MAKING  MEMORIES OF A LIFETIME. THE QUEEN OF COURSE RECEIVED SPECIAL TREATMENT AND GOT THE CHANCE TO RIDE AROUND THE FARM IN A 1961 CHEVELLE  AS SHE WAVED TO HER FRIENDS.

WEDNESDAY MORNING STARTED AS USUAL- BREAKFAST WAS BEING SERVED IN THE DINING HALL, EMPLOYEES WERE CLOCKING IN, AND RESIDENTS WERE UP AND ABOUT READY TO START A NEW DAY. BUT THIS WEDNESDAY WAS DIFFERENT- MAYBE NOT FOR All, BUT DEFINITELY FOR SOME. THERE WERE TWELVE RESIDENTS WHO SMILED A LITTLE BIGGER; FOURTEEN EMPLOYEES WHO FELT A LITTLE MORE CONFIDENT IN THEIR CAREGIVING; AND ONE PRINCESS READY TO CONTINUE HER JOURNEY, WHO NOW BELIEVES THAT DREAMS REALLY CAN COME TRUE MORE THAN ONCE.
