When a loved one is diagnosed with dementia, it affects everyone in the family, friends and the community. The Alzheimer's Association states that Alzheimer's is being diagnosed every 69 seconds in the U.S. alone, and 7 out of 10 Alzheimer's patients live at home where family and friends provide most of the care. Yet studies show that these caregivers are not formally trained to provide the support needed for those living with dementia.
SWD has revamped the Family Edition to be more user friendly by lessening the clinical approach and implementing more practical approaches to dementia care. The Family Edition also includes a Family Guide used post tour to provide strategies for empathetic care based on the families newly discovered knowledge gleaned from the VDT experience.
"The Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT®) Family Edition is a must-have for everyone caring for loved ones suffering from any form and level of dementia. It's an easy-to-use kit with everything needed to truly comprehend and empathize with what it must be like to have your mind malfunctioning. I wish I'd had this incredible tool when I cared for my parents (both with early Alzheimer's which went undiagnosed for over a year), as I would have been empowered sooner to be a more compassionate and effective caregiver."

Proceeds from the sale of the VDT®-Individual Edition go toward the fulfillment of dreams for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Family kits cannot be purchased by Elder Care Communities unless a Group kit has already been purchased. This will allow your ECC to send both families and staff through the VDT® Group Edition, thereby meeting the dementia training requirement and also meeting the needs of your families and community. If your ECC already has a Group VDT®, the Family kit can be purchased for individual families.
