In honor of Alex Haley's 100th birthday year, his family (in partnership with Second Wind Dreams®) will host a cards of light campaign celebrating his life. Make elders smile through this campaign that celebrates the life and legacy of a man who gave voice to the ancestors.
Alex Haley wrote Roots (1976), which tells the story of Kunta Kinte, an 18th-century African, captured as an adolescent, sold into slavery in Africa, and transported to North America, following his life and the lives of his descendants in the United States down to Haley.
Join the Alex Haley Family and Second Wind Dreams ® as we celebrate the 100th birthday year of beloved author Alex Haley, born August 11, 1921. We’re honoring thousands of elders by providing them with cheerful cards at a time when long-term care residents feel more isolated than ever.
Together with organizations just like yours, we will collect 5,000 handmade all-occasion cards for residents of nursing homes and assisted living communities through February 2022.
